The SHAKEN Governance Model: Setting Robocall Mitigation Protocols into Action in the Network – An ATIS Webinar

WHAT: ATIS is bringing together key experts for a series of webinars delivering insight into the coordinated industry-driven work taking place to combat unwanted robocalling and caller ID spoofing. This webinar will examine how the Signature-based Handling of Asserted information using toKENs (SHAKEN) specification is being set into action in the network using the SHAKEN governance model. It will cover how the governance model was formed and the key requirements behind it. Presenters discuss the FCC direction to industry on how to implement the governance structure. They also address industry progress to formally establish the Secure Telephone Identity Governance Authority (STI-GA), which operates under the auspices of ATIS, as well as the work to select the STI Policy Administrator (STI-PA), the organization that applies and enforces the rules to put the SHAKEN framework into action as defined by the STI-GA. Efforts to extend SHAKEN internationally are also covered with an introduction to the Canadian SHAKEN governance structure.

WHEN: Tuesday, May 14, 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. ET.

SPEAKERS: Jim McEachern, ATIS Principal Technologist, with Moderator Brent Struthers, ATIS Director of the Secure Telephone Identity Governance Authority (STI-GA)
Eric Burger, Chief Technology Officer, FCC
Linda Vandeloop, AT&T, Chair, Secure Telephone Identity Governance Authority (STI-GA)
Marian Hearn, Executive Director, Canadian Secure Token Governance Authority

BACKGROUND: Working with the IETF’s STIR (Secure Telephone Identity Revisited) protocol, the ATIS-SIP Forum SHAKEN specification provides a practical mechanism for authenticating calls. The SHAKEN Governance Model webinar is the second in a series. The first provided an introduction to the SHAKEN protocol, an important tool to reduce illegal robocalls, a top customer complaint received by both Federal and state regulators.
