Insights in New ATIS Report Advance the Reliability and Resilience of our Nation’s Communications Networks

WASHINGTON, DC — With the goal of advancing the reliability and resiliency of our communications networks, ATIS today announced publication of an industry resource providing a snapshot of the issues addressed by ATIS’ Network Reliability Steering Committee (NRSC). The work covered takes place to ensure that meaningful data is being collected and analyzed to better understand disruptive outages and mitigate them.

“Findings in the Network Reliability Steering Committee Operational Report are used to develop timely industry guidance that directly impacts and improves the nation’s networks,” said ATIS President and CEO Susan Miller. “ATIS is pleased to deliver this contribution from a key set of industry advisors with expertise in what it takes to maintain the health of the nation’s communications networks.”

The report specifically covers issues the NRSC has addressed over the 2017-2018 time frame. However, analysis of this work was conducted with a forward-focused eye on how the Committee’s data collection and other priorities can address issues taking place in 2019 and beyond. In terms of setting findings into action, the report shows that throughout the 2017 to 2018 time frame, the NRSC was active in researching and providing guidance on many network reliability issues and responding to various FCC concerns regarding network events. That work continues and will be strengthened through the findings presented in the 2017-2018 resource. The NRSC continues to work closely with the FCC to improve outage reporting procedures, refine best practices and provide a forum for collaborative industry and government work efforts.
